PHOTOGRAPHY INSTRUCTION / TUTORING
INDIVIDUAL OR GROUP
As an instructor, Roger's goal is for you to be a better photographer for the rest of your life. He has a unique and successful teaching method. Roger continues to teach accredited courses at Mitchell College in Digital Photography and Digital Imaging as an elective. Last year, at Mitchell's request, he introduced an Advanced course which will continue to be available this fall. He uses the same techniques incorporated in this course when giving one on one instruction and tutoring to private individuals or group workshops.

According to Riley, "you have to understand composition, light, and exposure in photography whether it's digital or not. Otherwise it's not a useable image, for a photo album or anything. The biggest problem I see is people not reading their manual and experimenting with every function of their camera. Sadly, the equipment dilema doesn't end there. You have to understand the ramifications of import and export from your computer and why and how they (the camera, a computer and a printer) impact each other."

Roger's one on one instruction sessions are geared to the experience level of the individual or to a specific area of interest. He still insists that everyone read their manual before scheduling a session. "When I purchase a new piece of equipment, I sit down with the manual in my lap and the equipment in my hands and go through everything. You need to develop a familiarity that is second nature or you are going to miss shots."

Ellen M., a recent private student of Roger's said "he is a weath of photography information. I learned things I didn't realize I didn't know. His style of teaching is so different I could focus on what we were discussing without feeling intimidated by his knowledge. I wanted to take better pictures of my family. I now have confidence in my photographic ability. I am now very happy with the new quality of my photography and my ability to handle different situations."
